Visit to the amphitheater and mithraeum of Sutri

Arts/Culture/Events

The monument is in fact a true symbol of the city even if the legendary founder of Sutri is depicted in the emblem. It is a rare example of a Roman-era building completely dug into the tuff without the aid of supporting walls. Precisely the simplicity of the architectural structure has led to the hypothesis of the chronological location of its construction in the late republican or early imperial era. The capacity was supposed to be around seven thousand spectators. Inside the archaeological park lies an imposing rock necropolis, evidence of the funerary architecture of the Roman era in the Etruscan-Falisco territory and the famous Mithraeum.
