Archaeological area of Antas

Arts/Culture/Events

The majestic columns of the Punic-Roman Temple of Antas make the splendid valley of the same name unique and fascinating, identified as a place of habitation and worship since the distant Nuragic period. The highlight that distinguishes the archaeological area is the presence of the Punic-Roman temple. This tetrastyle place of worship is surmounted by an inscription confirming the worship of the god Sardus Pater Babai and its chronological placement in the 3rd century AD; the restoration phase was under the rule of Emperor Caracalla. Beneath the temple, the remains of the Carthaginian place of worship (500 BC) are visible.
