Palace of the Popes - access with audio guide included
The Palace of the Popes is the most important historical monument, a true symbol of the city of Viterbo. The palace was built on the occasion of the transfer of the seat of Pope Alexander IV.
The best-known parts are the beautiful Loggia dei Papi built in 1267; the majestic Conclave Hall, so called for having hosted the first and longest conclave in history; the Sala Gualterio which houses the original parchment of the first conclave.
The visit itinerary also includes the Colle del Duomo Museum, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and its monumental sacristy commissioned by Cardinal Muzio Gallo, completely covered in walnut and gold with frescoes on the vault.
